Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Chapter 7: Those Left Behind

Chapter 7: Those Left Behind continues in Costa del Sol, so we get more mini-games and beach life adventure. We get a little date preview with Aerith (again, sorry, Tifa fans), Yuffie is finally part of the team, and we get more Johnny than we previously thought possible!

This chapter brings back an old challenge, in that the gym from Wall Market in Sector 6 Midgar has made their way out to the jungles outside of Costa del Sol. With the gym comes another fitness challenge – this time, crunches. The final battle on this one is tough – you need a perfect run at high speed – so expect to restart over, and over, and over, and over again.

There’s another flash-somewhere (sideways? forwards?) with Zach, where he’s brought Elmyra to an incapacitated Cloud and Aerith in Midgar. We also figure out in this scene that “the world is ending.” I still haven’t completely figured out when/where/why/how these Zach scenes are yet. I even comment during this scene “I have no idea what’s going on right now,” but I imagine all will be explained as we progress.

The treck down the train tracks is solid, and features Yuffie a lot, which was a good choice. The scene with the bird chicks from the original is remade in a wonderful way (Cloud Jr!), and there’s also a mini-game where you get to ride down the tracks in a cart, using Barrett to shoot boxes along the way.

We also wind up in Corel, where everyone is not so please to see Barrett return. Correl’s recreation is really good, and bringing such a small mess of a town in the original to life like they did was incredible. The Dyne flashback was perfect.

You don’t hang out in Corel long though (and you didn’t in the original either), so it’s on to The Gold Saucer!
