Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Chapter 8: All That Glitters

Unfortunately, my OBS settings got changed in the middle of this chapter, and the audio duplicates itself. It started pulling audio from both the capture card and the desktop, so there’s a 1-2ms echo that persists from 1:13:50 on. I didn’t realize it at the time, and wasn’t able to figure out how to fix this in post, so it is what it is.

In any event, I made it to The Gold Saucer!

This chapter is a huge distraction, and you can waste a ton of time here on all of the minigames, but that’s sort of the point. The cut scenes here are phenominal, and the amusement park was recreated fantastically. We also got very loyal recreations of all of the games to go try and perfect.

I thought we were getting the iconic date scene in this chapter, but nope! It was cut short! No date yet.

Doing my first chocobo race was incredible. They’ve basically created Mario Cart. Like Queen’s Blood, a multiplayer version of this would absolutely thrive.

Corel Prison is a pretty wild remake – again, they’ve done so well reimagining all of these locations.

The reimagined Dyne was a choice. Again, sorry about the audio on this one, but this is one of the first times where I’ve questioned the direction on occasion. With Dyne starting off halucinating and talking nonsense, I was a bit confused. The scene between Barrett and Dyne after the fight though is incredible up until Dyne starts acting like Barrett kidnapped Marlene, which was another point of contention for me. Then, to top it all off, random nobody Shinra troops just appear out of nowhere and kill Dyne (and Dyne kills them). It was a very anticlimactic end for Dyne, and I much preferred the direction of the original.

Other than that, we got some more Zach scenes, where I still don’t quite know what’s going on. Biggs is somehow alive (cool), but it’s not totally adding up just yet.

From here, it’s on to Gongaga! Check out the full Chapter 8 video, here:
