In my quest to acquire all of the pennies, I came across a fun one!
To start off the new millennium, the US Mint partnered with Cheerios to release the first 10,000,000 Lincoln cents, and 5,500 Sacagawea dollars inside boxes of Cheerios. They’re considered the “first pennies of the new millennium,” and come with a certificate of authenticity.
The Sacagawea dollars are fairly expensive, but the pennies are pretty easy to acquire off of eBay, so I went for it!
There is apparently a rare version of the Cheerios penny where the reverse has a wide AM in America, but you have to pull it out of the package to learn if yours is the wide AM or not, so I guess we’ll never know!
I scored a few other fun pieces recently as well, but I’ll save those for another post.
