Just a quick post showing off some new coins I got from this week.
The first is a really cool off-center penny from 1986! My old microscope camera thing broke in our move, so I’m working with a new one, and I’m still terrible at taking photos with it, but you get the idea:


This error happens when the planchet (the metal disk that makes up the coin) is not positioned properly between the dies (the two pieces that strike the coin). This causes a portion of the planchet to be visible, while the design we’re used to seeing is off-center. It’s one of the most obviously visible errors, so these are highly collectable. I love that you can see the date on this one.
The US Mint had a sale, so I also grabbed some reverse proof dollar coins – specifically grabbing the New Hampshire coin, since it’s gaming related. Again, the photography is a work in progress.

Overall, a good week for some cool coins!
