NFL, UFC, & Still Cold – Fourth Coin Hunt of 2014

I just finished watching C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans absolutely dismantle Joe Flacco and the Cleveland Browns, 45-14. I also have UFC Fight Night: Ankalaev vs. Walker 2 on, and I’m waiting for the Miami Dolphins vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, which is set to be one of the coldest games in NFL history.

The only reason I get to watch that last one is because I accidentally forgot to cancel an annual Peacock subscription last year. They got me for the controversy this time, but they won’t get me next time.

Unfortunately, it looks like my SD card that I’ve been using with my microscope has become “corrupted and unreadable,” so I’ve lost a couple of zoomed in images, especially for the 1980 penny I got (which looked amazing under the microscope, but fairly boring otherwise).

I did three rolls again this time (150 pennies), and I didn’t find anything terribly interesting, but I did get some upgrades. We’ll start with the aforementioned 1980:

Like I said – fairly boring. Under the microscope though, the colors on this one explode. It’s a really interesting texture that light just bounced off of in a really cool way. You’ll just have to take my word for it – there’s more to this penny than meets the eye.

Next was a series of pretty gorgeous coins from the 2000s+ that were all upgrades from my previously held coins, so the rest of this post will be shiny penny spam:

The Kansas City Chiefs are up 7-0. They just drove down the field fairly easily for a touchdown.

Back to more penny spam:

And lastly, some charts for the hunt:

Since this was a fairly inconsequential hunt, I’ll throw in a bonus to explain this post’s featured image at the top. My Father-In-Law gave me a Franklin Half Dollar that look very curious! The edges were extremely large, and it almost looked like the coin had been stuck in the center of a ring.

This is a dryer coin! When a coin gets left in someone’s pocket, and spends a lot of time bouncing around the inside of a dryer, or gets stuck between the dryer drum and the wall, it gets some pretty unique deformities.

Just for fun, here is a regular Franklin Half Dollar vs the Dryer Franklin Half Dollar:

And with that, I’m off to continue watching NFL and UFC! I’ve got another hunt post lined up soon, where I’ll be talking about 1960 coins and their variations.

Have a great weekend!
